Helping our neighbours
As part of the fight against COVID-19 and to help stop the spread of the virus, Toronto City Staff, in collaboration with the developer, have secured a 6-month, interim housing option for 125 units at 55-65 Broadway. This is one of 23 emergency housing projects across the city for people who had been living outdoors and in encampment settings that were not deemed safe. Providing a place to self-isolate for those in critical need not only protects their health and safety, but that of our entire community. Here is information from the City on the program: City of Toronto Interim Housing The Republic Residents’ Association is helping to provide requested necessities to these new neighbours in collaboration with Mary-Anne Bedard, General Manager of Shelter, Support and Housing Administration, and Councillor Josh Matlow’s office. Residents in all four quadrants of Yonge-Eglinton have also offered their support. We are asking you, if possible, to donate some essential household and personal items so that the new residents have what they need to thrive, both while they live in this dwelling and as they transition to their next, permanent home. All donations must be coordinated with the project’s Shift Leader ahead of time. Please call 437-343-8057 to arrange a drop-off at the front door of 65 Broadway Ave.This will ensure social distancing and safety for everyone.
